Aluminum Swing Door Series: How to Choose Between 55-60, 64/65, 70, 75, 80 and 95

Swing doors are the door type we get asked about most — and the question behind most inquiries is simpler than it looks: there are six series in this range, they look alike in photos, so which one does a project actually need? The answer sits in three specifications: how deep the sash profile is, how wide the thermal break is, and how thick the glass can go. This guide walks through all six series with the numbers we manufacture to, so the choice can be made on facts.

What the series numbers mean

The series number tracks the sash structure depth. The 55-60 series carries a 55/60 mm sash; the 64/65 goes to 64/65 mm; the 70 series is 80 mm deep, the 75 is 85 mm, the 80 is 89 mm, and the 95 tops the range at 105 mm. A deeper sash gives the profile room for a wider thermal break and thicker glass, which is why the numbers climb together as you move up the range.

That is the pattern to keep in mind: the series number is really a size class, and the size class decides how much insulation the door can carry.

The spec that separates them: thermal break width

In a thermal break aluminum door, the insulation strip is what separates the cold side of the frame from the warm side. Its width is the clearest indicator of where a series belongs:

• 55-60 series — 14.8/20 mm strip
• 64/65 series — 24/25.3 mm strip
• 70 series — 30 mm strip
• 75 series — 35/35.3 mm strip
• 80 series — 39/40 mm strip
• 95 series — 54 mm strip

Glass capacity climbs the same way. The two entry series take 18-36 mm glass, the 70, 75 and 80 take 36-42 mm, and the 95 takes up to 47 mm. Wider strips plus thicker sealed units are what move a door from “fine for a mild winter” to “holds its own in a real heating or cooling climate.”

Matching a series to the project

For interior openings, balcony transitions and projects in mild coastal-temperate climates, the 55-60 and 64/65 series do the job at the lowest cost. Both carry 18-36 mm glass, which covers the standard double-glazed units most of these projects use anyway.

The 70 and 75 series are the middle of the range and the usual answer for a residential exterior door. With 30-35 mm thermal breaks and 36-42 mm glass capacity, they hold indoor temperature steady through a full heating season and stay manageable on budget — which is why the 75 series is the one we quote most.

The 80 and 95 series exist for buildings where insulation is a requirement rather than a preference: cold-winter or hot-interior climates, street-facing openings where sealing matters, and projects with energy targets to meet. The 95 is the flagship of the range — a 105 mm sash, a 54 mm thermal break and glass up to 47 mm, with a 95 mm outer frame depth behind it.

What stays the same across the range

Three things do not change as you move up. Wall thickness is 2.0/2.2 mm across the series (2.2 mm on the 95), so none of the higher series is “heavier metal” — the upgrade is insulation, not gauge. Frame visible surface widths of 43/47/51 mm are shared by every series from the 70 up, which matters when a facade mixes doors and windows from different series and the sightlines need to match. And every series is built as a thermal break system with weather sealing, wind resistance and watertightness designed in.
