Aluminum Hung Windows — Single and Double Hung

Hung windows open by sliding a sash vertically inside the frame — the window style most associated with North American homes. FRAME supplies both single hung and double hung aluminum windows, built to order for each project. Because the sash stays inside the frame, hung windows project nothing outward or inward when open, which makes them a practical choice for walkways, porches, and rooms facing narrow setbacks.

Single Hung Windows

On a single hung window, only the lower sash moves; the upper sash stays fixed. With fewer moving parts, the window is simpler in construction and easier to maintain — a common fit for bedrooms, basements, stairwells, and rental units where a dependable, budget-conscious window matters more than maximum ventilation.

Double Hung Windows

On a double hung window, both sashes slide independently. You can lower the top sash and raise the bottom one at the same time, letting warm air escape at the top while fresh air enters at the bottom — a ventilation pattern that works especially well in spring and autumn. Because both sashes can typically tilt inward, the outside glass can be cleaned from inside the room, which is a real advantage for upper floors and apartments.

Classic Grid or Clean Lines

The grid (colonial) pattern divides each sash into small panes and is the traditional look for American-style homes, especially in heritage renovations and communities with design guidelines. If you prefer a modern facade, the same window is available without grids — one clean pane of glass per sash with slim aluminum sightlines. Both looks are produced on the same frame system, so you can mix them across one project.

Why Aluminum

Aluminum frames are rigid and slim, so they hold large glazed areas with little visual bulk — more daylight per opening compared with bulkier frame materials. The profiles resist corrosion, need minimal upkeep, and are fully recyclable, which suits hung windows installed in coastal and humid climates. Frame finishes are available in powder-coat colors or anodized surfaces to match your facade.

Where Hung Windows Fit

In typical North American projects, hung windows go in bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens, while larger openings are handled with picture windows or sliding windows in the same aluminum system. Because both sashes sit inside the frame plane, hung windows also pair well with exterior insect screens and with air-conditioned rooms, where you want to open a window without it blocking curtains or blinds.
